Shrimp farming in the top producing countries

Industry production status

The aquaculture species with the highest total farm gate value in terms of global production is the Penaeus vannamei white leg shrimp. Comprising 10.72% of all aquaculture species produced in the world, the global production of white leg shrimp in 2017 reached a farm gate value of 26.7 billion USD with a total of 4,456,603 tonnes produced (FAO, 2018), an increase from 4,155,828 tonnes in 2016 (FAO, June 2019). The top 6 producing countries in 2016 were China, Indonesia, India, Ecuador, Vietnam and Thailand. The production figures are shown below.
